The concept of Pantheon centers on the metaphor of pillars—those foundational figures and ideas that have shaped what we know and how we create. Within this project, Pantheon becomes a meditation on legacy: the inheritance we receive from the past and the responsibility we carry to extend it forward.
The three artists and techniques that inform the pillar sections—Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds—serve as the structural columns that uphold American modern dance. Their innovations not only defined the art form but also opened the door for a new genre of lighting design crafted specifically to illuminate their stories and influence.
Corundum and Sapphires emerge as a culmination of what these masters have taught us. Corundum reflects the choreographer’s personal journey—his questions, challenges, and the process of integrating the lessons of those who came before him. It becomes the threshold through which he enters Sapphires.
Sapphires, the fifth and final movement and aptly titled “The Legacy,” represents the moment of self-definition. Choreographed in the artist’s own voice, this section follows the dancer as he chooses to honor the greats of American modern dance while boldly forging a path that is uniquely his own.
